Baraha Chhetra
Baraha Kshetra Mandir is at the confluence of the Kosi and the Kokaha rivers. It is 21 kilometers northwest of Dharan. its very important historically, archeologically and naturally. Baraha Kshetra is one of the four Hindu Puranic kshetras (shrines); two of which fall in Nepal: Muktinath Kshetra and Baraha Kshetra). We can go for short village trek of 2 to 4 days to Bishnupaduka VDC or surrounding areas of Baraha Kshetra VDC itself.
Koshi Tappu of Sunsari
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve lies on the alluvial flood plain of Sapta Koshi River. This, the largest river in Nepal, flows through the reserve. The Sapta Koshi is one of the three main tributaries of the Ganga. Reverie and Sal forests and grasslands dominate the vegetation of the reserve. This combination of vegetation and wetland proves a special site for birds and animals. The main mammals here are the Wild Buffalo, Blue Bull and Gangetic Dolphin. Around 300 species of birds have been recorded in this reserve. These include waterfowl, birds of prey, waders, and other water birds. The globally threatened Swamp Partridge (Francolinus Gularis) is also a familiar sight. The nearby Koshi Barrage has created a vast expanse of water. This makes it the most important staging point for migrating birds. At the same time it is an all year playground for resident ones. Makalu, the world's fifth highest mountain (8,463m), can be glimpsed on a clear day. This enhances the beauty of the scenery dramatically. IN area of 175 sq. km. 514 species of plants, 485 species of birds, 31 species of mammels 200 species of fishes and 11 amphibians can be found here.
Bhedetar
Bhedetar is a hill station of eastern Nepal. The beautiful view of the heighest elevations of the earth can be observed. Spectacular views of Kanchanjunga the 3rd tallest peak, Makalu the 4th tallest peak and Kumbhakarna Range offers an awe-inspiring feel. Bhedetar is situated 16 kilometer north from Dharan. It is the meeting point of Sunsari and Dhankuta district. The sudden climate change in bhedetar is one of its attraction, we can never predict the weather there, a sunny weather readily turns cloudy, foggy and can even rain, in no while return to sunny again. Prince Charles on his visit to Bhedetar climbed the tallest hill there which is now named Charles Point and a 30 foot tower is constructed. The view of Dharan municipality, Saptakoshi River and surrounding hills and mountain can be observed from the tower, which creates a wonderful feeling of bliss.
Tal Talaiya
Tal Talaiya is located in itahari municipality. Many pounds and lakes (artificial and natural) make it best for fishing and recreation. Many small shades are constructed to be used as rest places. One can bask in the sun, enjoy fishing, walk around the nearby community forest and arrange for a picnic. It is a real fun to be there. A quick catering arrangement for food and couple of hour time will take you out of hustle and rustle of the city to somewhere near to the nature.
Boating
If some adventure and thrill is needed, there is always a way. Boating from Chatara to Koshi River Barrage provides a refreshing treat. The swift flowing river glides down the hills and silently passes the plain. Be ready to encounter the sights of Wild buffalo, and rare bird species as you float.
